\"IMG_20160721_151656_deta\"<\/a>69115 Heidelberg:<\/strong> Bahnstadt is the largest passive house development in the world and one of the largest new development areas in Germany with 116 ha. From apartments to laboratory buildings, shops, daycare centers and schools to the fire station and cinema - all the buildings are being built using the climate-friendly passive house construction method. It will be supplied by a wood-fired power plant operated by Heidelberg's municipal utility company. Electricity and heat will be supplied entirely from renewable sources. 6,500 to 6,800 people will live in Bahnstadt in the future, 5,000 to 6,000 people will work there. Construction began in 2008 and the first residents moved in in June 2012. By the end of 2018, more than 4,000 people will live in Bahnstadt. Around 2,450 apartments have already been built - a total of around 3,700 apartments will be built. Planned completion: 2022

\nOpen space design: extensive roof greening throughout
\nSpecies protection: Around 3,500 fence lizards and wall lizards were relocated at the beginning of the construction work to new habitats and dry stone walls created especially for them at the edge of the site.
\nMobility: four stations of the car sharing provider Stadtmobil<\/a>. Trams have been running on the site since 2017.<\/p>\n
