Friedensreich Hundertwasser's design of an \"oasis for humanity and for nature in a sea of rational houses\". The last finished concept and largest realized building of the Austrian. The planning was carried out by the architects Peter Pelikan (design) and Heinz M. Springmann (execution). Realisation from 2002 by GERO-AG. The costs amounted to about 27 million euros.<\/p>\n

The name of the house has its basis in the grassy roof. There are also a large number of trees on, in and around the building. Some have been planted on the roof, and others take root on the outer walls of the apartments. These \"tree tenants\" are in the care of the respective tenant and are maintained by the tenant. Tenants have window rights; they are allowed - as far as their arms and paintbrushes will go - to design the facade around their windows. The Green Citadel encloses two inner courtyards, the larger of which has a fountain.
