01109 Dresden:<\/strong> Hellerau is considered one of the early testimonies of modernism. With a spirit of experimentation, it bundled the various life-reform currents of the spirit of optimism of the early 20th century. Hellerau is considered the \"nursery\" of the Werkbund and a manifestation of its ideas. Completion: 1955

<\/div>The basic idea of the garden city emerged from the publication \"Tomorrow - A Peaceful Path to Real Reform\" (1989) by the British Ebenezer Howard. The aim was to counter the poor inner-city living conditions with a planned urban development. These settlements close to the city were to combine the advantages of rural regions with life in the big city through generous green spaces and a unity of living, working and culture. The garden city of Hellerau is the first ensemble built in Germany according to the classical English model (Letchworth, Hampstead Garden).<\/p>\n

Size: 336 residential buildings were built between 1909 and 1913 according to the ideas of the garden city. However, the district has a total of about 900 WE for about 2,000 inhabitants.
