Within the framework of the innovation programme \"Flats in forward-looking building projects\" of the Ministry for Building and Housing of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the model project \"Living together of young and old\" was developed at Vaalser Stra\u00dfe\/Kandelfeldstra\u00dfe on the initiative of the Aachen City Council.<\/p>\n

The key points of the housing concept are: Mix of different apartment sizes, Barrier-free living, Neighbourhood assistance, Community facilities, Good infrastructure and transport links, Tenant participation - tenants were already involved in the project when the architectural competition was announced. Suggestions regarding floor plan design, furnishings, community facilities and the use of outdoor areas were incorporated into the implementation. The association \"Jung und Alt e. V.\" (Young and Old), founded shortly after moving in, is still responsible for part of the administration within the project. In particular, the right to have a say in the reallocation of apartments has proven to be a stabilizing factor within the tenant community.<\/p>\n
