Completion: 1994<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\">From 1989 to 1994, a low-energy housing estate was built on the outskirts of Heiligenhafen by self-help groups. Favourable land and building costs were achieved through the planning of six families who wanted to live there. There was no need for a property developer or general contractor. Each property owner was the builder.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\">The application for subsidies, the purchase of materials, the awarding of contracts and the construction supervision were carried out as a construction consortium.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\">A predefined building prototype was considered to point the way for the development.
