To display only the German eco-settlements, please activate the box labelled \"Germany\".<\/p>\n<p>From the year 2000 onwards, the term sustainable settlements and neighbourhoods is more commonly used and eco-settlements are no longer frequently used. Eco-settlements are the first major pioneering projects of building biology and ecological building. However, the concepts go back further to the Lebensreform movement around 1900. The main modern impulse for eco-settlements came from the global view of the modern ecology debate of the 1970s and 1980s, which was taken up above all by building biologists and solar architects. This gave rise to many pioneering and model projects, which were often publicly funded in the 1980s and 1990s, and whose approaches and concepts have now partly found their way into legislation and
