The Hellerau estate can be traced back to the initiative of furniture manufacturer Karl Schmidt, whose name is still associated with the Deutsche Werkst\u00e4tten Hellerau today. All in all, the garden city of the architect Richard Riemerschmid is a modern piece of urban history despite its romanticizing approach. In addition to Riemerschmid, Heinrich Tessenow, Hermann Muthesius and Kurt Frick, as well as Theodor Fischer, were among the renowned architects who designed entire streets or at least rows of houses in Hellerau.
