D - 15806 Wünsdorf:
Concept of an ecological model and future city for the 21st century. Since 2017, a team of pioneers of ecological urban planning around Prof. Dr. Ekhart Hahn has been developing a new Campus Eco-City to be built at the Wünsdorf site near Zossen (approx. 40 km from Berlin). The former "forbidden" town of Wünsdorf with a total area of 600 ha offers ideal conditions for the realisation of this vision, which is to be realised on approx. 100 ha. Completion: ~2030
Cornerstones of the vision are:
- Conversion of Germany's most important military city into an ecological city of the future
- First ECO-City worldwide - An answer to climate change, resource wars and the resulting refugee flows
- A model, laboratory and training city for the repopulation of crisis regions devastated by climate and war
- Nucleus for an ecological model region Berlin-Brandenburg
Organized as a self-sufficient settlement, the Eco City not be dependent on the supply of energy and products and the disposal of waste. New, post-fossil life and city models and the transformation of cities into networked closed-loop systems are to be developed in the Eco City be tested and taught. It is to be self-sufficient in energy at 100%. The need for food is also to be produced locally on site at 80%. Residents are both consumers and producers, self-sufficient to the greatest extent possible. They use renewable energies, local water and nutrient cycles, cradle-to-cradle technologies for durable and recyclable products, and consistently sustainable mobility solutions.
