Newly built districts with space-efficient mobility offers
2:14 min - 10/4/2018
On the west side of the Merwedekanal, a new sustainable urban quarter is being built in a central location not far from Utrecht Central Station. An urban development plan for the redevelopment of an industrial area along the canal was drawn up by the municipality of Utrecht together with ten landowners. The plan envisages a mixed district with 17 blocks. Here, 6,000 to 9,000 apartments are to be built for approximately 12,000 residents. The area is to become a showcase for healthy and sustainable living with innovative concepts for recycling, energy production, climate adaptation and mobility solutions. Size: 60 ha. Planned completion: by 2024
Since August 2016, fuel cell heating systems have been subsidised with an attractive grant of at least EUR 5,700 via the KfW programme "Energy-efficient construction and refurbishment - fuel cell grant". With a fuel cell heating system, electricity and heat can be generated simultaneously according to the principle of combined heat and power.
Grant of up to 40 % of the eligible costs, max. 28,200 euros per installed fuel cell
for the installation of fuel cell systems in new or existing residential buildings
Almost 1 billion euros in federal funding for urban development and social integration in neighbourhoods in 2020
The federal and state governments have jointly developed a new structure for urban development funding from 2020: A total of €790 million will be available in three (instead of the previous six) concentrated urban development funding programmes. In addition to the funding requirement of climate change/climate adaptation, including urban greening, the possibility of stronger inter-municipal cooperation has also been added.
A further 200 million euros are available in the "Social Integration in the Neighbourhood" investment pact. This will enable the municipalities to press ahead with the expansion and refurbishment of their social infrastructure.
Federal Minister of the Interior Seehofer signed the corresponding administrative agreements today. Federal funding for urban development and social integration will thus be stabilised at a high level.
Federal Minister of the Interior Seehofer: "We are streamlining our funding structure. This will make it easier for cities and municipalities to implement their projects. In addition, climate protection will become a funding requirement. Urban development funding without climate protection will no longer exist in the future."
The following federal-state urban development programs are available for the 2020 funding year:
"Living Centres" to promote inner development and historic city centres (300 million euros),
"Social cohesion" to promote coexistence in neighbourhoods (EUR 200 million),
"Growth and Sustainable Renewal" to adapt to demographic and structural change and to design liveable neighbourhoods (290 million euros),
"Investment Pact for Social Integration in the Neighbourhood" (200 million euros).
The administrative agreements will enter into force as soon as all federal states have countersigned.
The urban development funding provided by the federal and state governments triggers considerable follow-up investments. For the year 2020, it is assumed that the total investment volume triggered by the funding will be around 12 billion euros, and the expected gross value added will be around 14 billion euros. The subsidies also support the small and medium-sized local economy to a large extent: approx. 36 percent of the expected construction volume remains in the municipality itself, another approx. 48 percent in the region with a radius of 50 km. The construction industry benefits from this with 71 percent of the implemented investment funds.

The current share of green electricity should not hide the fact that this federal government is blocking the energy transition at every turn. Take wind energy, for example: the government keeps delaying the additional tenders. Therefore, a massive slump is imminent in the next two years. This means job losses in a key industry of the future and a stagnating development in the share of wind power.
Take solar power, for example: no sooner has the solar power market picked up again after years of lull than the German government wants to massively cut the market premium for many installations. This emerges from the current draft bill for the Energy Collection Act. In doing so, the government would stall the positive development again. The cap of 52 gigawatts for solar power is also to remain in place.
Even if the government only wants to achieve its own targets, which are far too low, it must double the current production of green electricity by 2030. The course must be set for this now. But instead of finally accelerating the expansion of green electricity, the black-red coalition wants to continue to slow down, cap and delay. Not to mention transport and buildings, where the energy transition is not making any progress at all. In this way, the government continues to torpedo the urgently needed climate protection.

In the construction of three new apartment buildings in Wieblinger Weg, Stadtwerke Heidelberg Umwelt GmbH implemented an innovative overall energy concept for Baugenossenschaft Neu Heidelberg eG. PV systems with a total output of 30 kWp and a module area of 200 square metres were installed on the roofs of the new buildings. The tenants are supplied with electricity from a PV system and battery storage. The remaining electricity is supplied in the form of certified green electricity from the public grid. Bonn/Düsseldorf. The fast, affordable and complete energy transition towards 100 percent renewable energy needs thought leaders and pioneers who inspire others. With the annual awarding of the German Solar Prize, EUROSOLAR puts these actors in the public eye and offers new impulses for a decentralised, citizen-oriented and regenerative conversion of the energy system.
EUROSOLAR e.V. and the EnergyAgency.NRW will jointly present the winners of the German Solar Prize 2017 on Saturday, 14 October 2017, at VillaMedia in Wuppertal.
In the run-up to the award ceremony, EUROSOLAR, in cooperation with the Hermann Scheer Foundation is organising a symposium to tie in with Hermann Scheer's visionary work "Der Energethische Imperativ" (The Energy Ethical Imperative). Together with the audience, the speakers will discuss how the rapid path to a renewable energy age can be implemented.
The award ceremony of the German Solar Prize begins with greetings from Lothar Schneider, Managing Director of EnergyAgency.NRW, Bettina Brücher, Mayor of the City of Wuppertal and Jörg HeynkesManaging Director of VillaMedia GmbH. Give an introduction Prof. Dr Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and Stephan GrügerMdL and Vice-President of EUROSOLAR e.V. Afterwards, the award winners will be honoured. Dr Axel BergChairman of EUROSOLAR Germany, the highlight of the event.
This will be followed by a get-together with snacks.
Participation in the event is free of chargeRegistration is requested by 6 October.
