In 2015, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy approved 939 new projects totalling 548 million euros. In the previous year, the figure was 695 projects with 373 million euros in funding. The majority of the funds were channelled into wind energy, photovoltaics, energy efficiency in buildings and cities, energy storage and grid infrastructure. The EnArgus information system and the BMWi's research portals (see column on the right) provide a detailed insight into the projects and the funds utilised. For energy efficiency in buildings and cities, the volume of funding for newly approved projects in 2015 totalled 73.48 million euros (13% ).
Billions from pensions are invested more sustainably and no longer used for fossil energies
Today, Thursday, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU officially announced their agreement on new EU rules for occupational pensions. Thanks to the persistence of Green shadow rapporteur Bas Eickhout, we were able to push through important demands in the final "Directive on the activities and supervision of institutions for occupational retirement provision". Currently, occupational pension funds across Europe manage [...]
In 2015, a historic double success was achieved for sustainability and climate policy. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate protection define an ambitious global target system. The group of the twenty most important industrialised and emerging countries (G20) should now resolutely press ahead with the implementation of both agreements and perceive the Great Transformation towards sustainability as a unique modernisation project that offers considerable economic development opportunities. For example, the complete decarbonisation of the global economy needed to avoid the greatest climate risks can only be implemented with a profound transformation of energy systems and other emissions-intensive infrastructures. The transformation inspires innovation and directs investments towards sustainability and climate protection, including in the sustainable infrastructures to be built and expanded. At the same time, the transformation can be used to fight inequality, i.e. to advance inclusion within societies as well as globally, and thus become a justice project.

As of today, the web database for sustainable settlements and neighbourhoods can be accessed under the domain "sdg21.eu". The previous domains www.siedlungen.eu, www.holzbausiedlungen.de and their subdomains are still active and lead directly to the respective contents.
Why the move to sdg21.eu?
There is a content-related and a practical reason for this. The practical reason is the somewhat shorter spelling, but also that it is easier to pronounce.
The reason for this is that this website is not only about settlements, as www.siedlungen.eu would suggest, but increasingly also about urban districts. There are not as many urban quarters with more far-reaching sustainability concepts as there are sustainable settlements or eco-settlements. However, the urban structure of mixed-use neighbourhoods, in the best case scenario, and the significantly lower land consumption in most cases for the same usable area, is in itself a significant contribution to sustainable development. Mixed-use neighbourhoods are conceptually ideally suited to organising everyday mobility without private cars and are an established and proven method of creating affordable housing in the city.
In order to be able to communicate this topic more directly, there is now an additional access within the sdg21.web database via the URL www.quartiere.net. This link will directly display Sustainable Urban Neighborhoods.
The web database is still available via the domain www.siedlungen.eu available. Sustainable settlements will continue to be a focus of the sdg21.web database, because this is where most projects and experiences have been made so far.
In general, the use of the letters "sdg21.eu" should further help to make the "sustainable development goals" better known. To achieve a distinction to the SDG 2030 I chose the number 21, which stands for the 21st century we are currently in. The SDG 2030 are the "Sustainable Development Goals 2030"The SDG 2030 Millennium Goals were adopted in September 2015 at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in New York by all the countries of the world as a guiding principle with agreed targets. In order to achieve the SDG 2030 Millennium Goals, the sdg21.web database would also like to offer solutions in the settlement and neighbourhood sector with the listed projects. In addition to the domain www.sdg21.eu the URLs www.sdg21.de,www.sdg21.ch and www.sdg21.at offered, which lead directly to the sustainable settlements and neighbourhoods of the respective countries.
Important impetus for electric mobility in Germany
Bonn/Cologne, 14 June 2017

StreetScooter GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post, and Ford-Werke GmbH are entering into a partnership to build battery-powered delivery vehicles. After Deutsche Post has already made its mark on the market for smaller vans with the emission-free StreetScooter, which it developed and built itself, the partnership is now moving on to a larger vehicle type: the basis is a Ford Transit chassis, which is equipped with a battery-electric drivetrain and a bodywork according to the specifications of Deutsche Post and DHL Paket.
Production will start in July 2017 and at least 2,500 units will be deployed in Deutsche Post DHL Group's inner-city delivery operations by the end of 2018. This volume will make the joint project the largest producer of battery-electric medium-duty delivery vehicles in Europe.
Both companies, Deutsche Post DHL Group and Ford, share the same goal of helping to shape the mobility of the future by reducing emissions and developing new transport solutions. This partnership is a concrete and important step towards achieving these goals.
"I see this partnership as another important boost for electromobility in Germany," says Jürgen Gerdes, Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Post AG. "This step underlines Deutsche Post's innovation leadership, will relieve the burden on city centres and improve people's quality of life. We are continuing to work on a completely CO2-neutral Logistics!“
"Electromobility and innovative transport solutions for urban areas are at the centre of our efforts to align our business with the requirements of the future," says Steven Armstrong, Group Vice President and President Europe, Middle East and Africa, Ford Motor Company. "For us as the market leader in the commercial vehicle segment in Europe, this partnership is the perfect complement to our plans. With StreetScooter and the Deutsche Post DHL Group, we have a partner with enormous expertise and a global network."
In addition to the new production line, production of the existing StreetScooter models will be significantly expanded, as already announced: StreetScooter GmbH plans to produce up to 20,000 units of its successful smaller e-delivery vehicle in different variants each year in Aachen and at a future additional production site in North Rhine-Westphalia. More than 2,500 StreetScooters are already in use throughout Germany for Deutsche Post. In addition, more and more external interested parties are registering demand or have already taken delivery of StreetScooters to convert their vehicle fleets to emission-free operation.
