BMUB's 2050 climate protection plan falls victim to Gabriel's red pencil

As the news agency Reuters reported last week, key targets in the draft Climate Action Plan 2050 drawn up by Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendriks have been cancelled by Federal Economics Minister Sigmar Gabriel. According to Reuters, all greenhouse gas targets for 2030 in the energy, industry, transport and agriculture sectors have been cancelled, as has the sentence stating that the expansion of renewables must be accelerated. The wording for a deadline for phasing out coal "well before 2050" has also been removed.
The draft is now to be agreed with Transport Minister Dobrindt (CSU) and Agriculture Minister Schmidt (also CSU) before the cabinet is allowed to vote on the remainder in September.
This is what the mayors of Mexico City, Paris, Athens and Madrid decided at the C40 meeting at a climate protection meeting of major international cities in Mexico City. They want to "do everything in their power to promote the use of electric and hybrid cars". In addition, more money is to be invested in the expansion of public transport and cycle paths.
Behind the meeting is the Group C40, short for Climate Leadership Group. In the beginning, there were 40 cities committed to climate protection - now there are more than 80. According to their own figures, they have a combined population of more than 600 million, i.e. almost one tenth of the world's population.

In the construction of three new apartment buildings in Wieblinger Weg, Stadtwerke Heidelberg Umwelt GmbH implemented an innovative overall energy concept for Baugenossenschaft Neu Heidelberg eG. Bonn/Düsseldorf. The fast, affordable and complete energy transition towards 100 percent renewable energy needs thought leaders and pioneers who inspire others. With the annual awarding of the German Solar Prize, EUROSOLAR puts these actors in the public eye and offers new impulses for a decentralised, citizen-oriented and regenerative conversion of the energy system.
EUROSOLAR e.V. and the EnergyAgency.NRW will jointly present the winners of the German Solar Prize 2017 on Saturday, 14 October 2017, at VillaMedia in Wuppertal.
In the run-up to the award ceremony, EUROSOLAR, in cooperation with the Hermann Scheer Foundation is organising a symposium to tie in with Hermann Scheer's visionary work "Der Energethische Imperativ" (The Energy Ethical Imperative). Together with the audience, the speakers will discuss how the rapid path to a renewable energy age can be implemented.
The award ceremony of the German Solar Prize begins with greetings from Lothar Schneider, Managing Director of EnergyAgency.NRW, Bettina Brücher, Mayor of the City of Wuppertal and Jörg HeynkesManaging Director of VillaMedia GmbH. Following a number of pilot projects, Dresden-based photovoltaic film manufacturer Heliatek is now officially starting series production of organic solar films. Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer came to the event to press the symbolic red button together with Heliatek's CEO Guido van Tartwijk: "With the opening of the production facility, Heliatek has successfully mastered the transition from research to the production of highly innovative products," said Kretschmer. The company plans to start manufacturing industrial-grade solar films in mid-2020 and deliver them to its first strategic customers. The core production machines have been installed, he said, and Heliatek is now working to ramp them up for mass roll-to-roll production in large quantities. According to the PV company, the production line is designed for a maximum capacity of one million square meters of solar films.
