In the Ecological model settlement in Prinz Eugen Park in Munich, a total of more than 600 residential units are to be built in timber or timber hybrid construction. According to the Mikado article, all plots of land for the model housing estate, which is up to seven storeys high, have already been allocated.
With the switch to WordPress and the update of the individual project representations, there were many innovations. In detail these are:
- there were 55 new settlement projects listed in the web directory
- significantly expanded and updated the area for settlement projects the "In the Making" are
- the previous "Bundesländervergleich" (the last one was from 2009) has been updated due to the newly added settlement projects and has been updated with a chronological and size allocation as further statistical analysis facility adds
The database-supported siedlungen.eu offers new technical possibilities:
- Filtering of projects by keywords and categories
– Tags-clouds
– Photo galleries
- most photos are displayed much larger and in higher resolution than in the previous html version of oekosiedlungen.de
- many new photos can be seen in the photo galleries, which were previously in offline archives
Furthermore, the data connection was changed to the secure and certified "https://" in August and the database was moved to a faster server.
For the fifth time and in keeping with its 120th birthday, Spar- und Bauverein Solingen eG awarded the nationwide Klaus Novy Prize for innovations in cooperative building and living in July. This prize was established by SBV eG as a stimulus for cooperative ideas on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. This year, the prize was awarded to projects that "socially and innovatively" strengthen membership in a cooperative and coexistence in neighborhoods.

"From children's cooperatives to housing projects for refugees: housing cooperatives today are more colourful, dynamic, open-minded and sustainable - innovative and social." SBV Board Chairman Ulrich Bimberg was enthusiastic about the "exciting exchange of knowledge" that took place in the cooperative's own historic washhouse Weegerhof.
Michael Groschek, Chairman of the NRW SPD and former Minister of State, was impressed by the award's namesake: Professor Klaus Novy had imagined the ideal society as a cooperative. The housing market in Germany is a long way from that, he said. "Unless you are lucky enough to live in Solingen, where every tenth apartment is cooperative." During his visit, Michael Groschek paid tribute to the innovative cooperative projects - as former NRW Minister for Construction, he has a special connection to the subject.
Eight cooperatives from all over Germany presented their ideas to the expert audience after a pre-selection from 31 submitted entries. In the end, the new Zurich housing cooperative "Mehr als Wohnen eG" prevailed in the democratic selection process. Their forward-looking and sustainable project was convincing from a social, technical and ecological point of view and received 4000 euros. Second place and 2000 euros went to "Inklusiv Wohnen Köln e.V.", the house project of an association of parents with disabled children. "Bellevue di Monaco eG" from Munich, a housing and social cooperative for refugees, was pleased with third place and 1000 euros. There were no losers in the innovative performances, but a win for all. SBV Chairman Ulrich Bimberg: "Every participating cooperative has something very special." For co-organiser Arno Mersmann, what is typical of a cooperative is: "What one person can't achieve alone, one can achieve together.

Funding guideline comes into force on 1 March 2018
With the so-called Small Series Directive, the Federal Environment Ministry is launching a new funding programme within the framework of the National Climate Initiative. Funding is provided for products and processes for climate protection that are already ready for the market but have not yet made the breakthrough. The directive comes into force on 1 March 2018.
Innovative products and processes often find it difficult to quickly establish themselves on the market and make the leap into regular series production. This is where the Federal Ministry for the Environment wants to help in future with investment grants within the framework of the small series funding guideline.
Five different technologies are the subject of the funding, which were selected within the framework of an ideas competition and its evaluation by a panel of experts. Eligible for funding in the future are
Micro hydropower plants with up to 30 kilowatts of electrical output in technical installations,
energy-efficient equipment for local oxygen production (which can be used, for example, in hospitals, research facilities, chemical processes or sewage treatment plants),
decentralised systems for heat recovery from domestic hot water (for example, shower channels, tubs or pipes with heat exchangers),
Drilling equipment for innovative geothermal storage probes and
electrically assisted cargo bikes and cargo bike trailers with high payloads and transport volumes for bicycle-based cargo transport. The promotion of cargo bikes is part of the Clean Air Emergency Programme.
Companies as well as municipalities and other organisations can benefit from the funding. Private individuals can also apply for funding for heat recovery systems from domestic hot water.
The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) will accept applications for funding under the directive from 1 March 2018. Applications can only be submitted online.
By a large majority, the city council has instructed the administration to increase the use of wooden building materials in new municipal buildings such as schools and day-care centres. Complete wooden buildings are to be erected wherever possible.
