If the sun is not enough, a biomass boiler supports the energy supply. This is fed with wood chips from the region of maximum 40 kilometers. Completion: 2018</p>

In a 20-meter high heat storage tank with a volume of 2,000 cubic meters, the solar-generated energy is available even when there is little or no solar radiation. The collectors collect around 5200 megawatts of heat per year, enough to supply around 300 average households. Completion: 2020</p>

Photovoltaic systems, including storage, which will supply the neighbourhood with home-generated solar power around the clock, round off the energy concept. The monument, which has been virtually unused since the end of the war, was refurbished as part of the IBA Hamburg and converted into a renewable power plant with large-scale heat storage. The energy storage facility has a volume of 2,000 cubic metres, which corresponds to 2,000,000 litres. It supplies the 120-hectare Reiherstieg district with climate-friendly heat and feeds renewable electricity into the Hamburg distribution grid.</p>
