Viva Werkstatt Bonn: Sustainable Ideas for the Viktoriaviertel
Published
"How do we want to live in our city and in our neighbourhood? We asked ourselves these questions at the planning workshop "Viva Werkstatt". The aim was to collect ideas for the careful development of the Viktoriaviertel. The neighbourhood is to become lively again and the urban areas are to be converted for the common good.
Among the more than 20 participants were architects, urban planners, residents, representatives of the local retail trade and gastronomy, and interested citizens of Bonn."
Over the last 150 years, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which are responsible for climate change, has risen sharply. Germany has set itself the goal of becoming largely greenhouse gas neutral by 2050. The great importance of municipalities in achieving these climate protection goals and the important role played by the increased and responsible use of wood became clear at the award ceremony for the 2016/2017 HolzProKlima municipal competition in Baden-Württemberg.
The award ceremony honoured cities, municipalities and districts that have made a conscious political decision to contribute to climate protection in their region by increasing the use of wood as a renewable resource. The competition office received a total of 40 applications. Cash and non-cash prizes totalling 20,000 euros were provided by companies in the wood-processing industry.

Climate champion was the municipality of Frickingen. Baden-Württemberg's Forestry Minister Peter Hauk (CDU) honoured the winners of the municipal competition in person and thanked the organisers of the state-sponsored competition: "There is a great need for the climate-positive material wood, and the possible uses are becoming increasingly diverse thanks to innovations."
The KfW programme "Energy-efficient urban refurbishment" promotes integrated energy-efficient neighbourhood concepts and refurbishment management with programme part 432. Programme parts 201 and 202 provide investment support for cross-building and infrastructural supply systems. The Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and the Home Affairs provides the funding for the energy refurbishment process from the individual building to the neighbourhood from the Energy and Climate Fund (EKF).
For one in three Germans, the car is still a status symbol. But due to running costs and the scarcity of parking spaces, more and more city dwellers are giving up their own car. Is it worth relying completely on car sharing?
In a motion, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen has called for a stronger focus on building with wood and the use of wood products as insulating materials. There should also be a KfW standard that focuses on building with renewable building materials.
The parliamentary group proposes a model programme for ecological building materials with a volume of 20 million euros. In the KfW Bankengruppe's programmes for new construction and refurbishment, the use of carbon-storing building materials based on renewable raw materials should be given greater support, for example in the form of a KfW Bankengruppe "Efficient House Nature+" standard.
