In a team with the architects Dietrich|Untertrifaller, the office Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl won the multiple commission from Freiburger Stadtbau GmbH for the Metzgergrün quarter. The estate is to change significantly over the next ten years and develop into a contemporary quarter with around 500 apartments, without losing its original character. The jury praised the design as follows: "This urban composition of residential courtyards, socio-spatial centre, high-quality and differentiated usable open spaces, new interconnections and correct pathways has the potential to create a model and future-oriented quarter."
Since the first edition of the FNR brochure "Straw Insulated Buildings" in 2013, building with this environmentally friendly and cost-effective material has developed positively.
Since 2014, it has been possible to plaster the bales directly on the inside and outside of buildings without additional plaster base, as well as to insulate the outside of masonry. Straw now also offers an interesting option for the energy-efficient refurbishment of old buildings.
The new edition of the FNR straw building brochure therefore contains a completely new chapter on the topic of "Renovation concepts with straw". It also provides good arguments for building sustainably with straw and updated cost overviews. Some of the building examples presented are also new, including three-storey, directly rendered straw buildings.
On the Sustainable Building Rating System (NBB), a new version of fact sheets is to be published shortly. In addition, the new eBNB system for the implementation of the NBB during planning and construction is about to be launched.
In the 2019 national competition, the focus is on existing buildings and inward growth: How can existing spaces be optimally utilised in times of scarce building land? How can innovative living spaces be created by converting existing uses? The 2019 state competition is looking for exemplary examples - in the city and in the countryside - that utilise all possibilities for reactivating existing buildings and were realised between 2014 and 2019.
