Hermannsdorfer Landwerkstätten (Kronsberg)

The original aim of the Expo was to show a counter-model with the Kronsberghof, to the highly specialized, industrial food production. Thus, the "Hermannsdorfer Landwerkstätten am Kronsberg", coined by the main investor K. L. Schweisfurth, was initially created, which not only included agriculture, but also extensive food processing with a butchery and bakery, as well as a large organic supermarket and a restaurant on site. This automatically brought agriculture and food production closer to an urban population, especially children and young people. The agricultural facilities of the Kronsberghof are still in operation. About 120 hectares of urban land are farmed according to the Demeter guidelines. Instead of the former extensive animal husbandry with dairy cows, pigs and chickens, there is now only a small herd of suckler cows and as a new mainstay boarding horses.

The farm shop and the pub, which were an important part of the Expo project, and which were realized not far from the new building district for Expo 2000, have also no longer existed in their original form since 2004. After insolvency, the buildings stood empty until the re-use of the residential buildings for a drug clinic was found.

The non-profit educational institution Bildungswerk Kronsberghof GmbH has emerged from the glass Expo farm on the Kronsberghof. It has been active in the field of environmental education since 1999. Since then, a large network of environmental education has been established, partly under the direction of the Bildungswerk Kronsberghof in the Hanover region and far beyond. The Bildungswerk Kronsberghof has always driven this development forward in close exchange with its shareholders - the Schweisfurth Foundation in Munich and the LEB in Lower Saxony (Rural Adult Education) in Hanover.
