NL - Amsterdam: the first energy-neutral hotel in Amsterdam with 700 m² of PV modules in the south and east façades. The glass roof above the atrium is also fitted with Photovoltaics which also functions as a sunshade. It was possible to dispense with an air conditioning system. Geothermal energy serves as a further energy source. Rainwater is collected to irrigate the garden in the hall. The building received an "Excellent" rating under the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) sustainability certification system.

Wood construction
Together with Ursem Modulaire Bouwsystemen, the DERIX Group is building a hotel made of wooden modules - 9 storeys high, in the centre of Amsterdam. Here, 2,100 m³ of wood is being used, 550 m³ of which is silver fir, which is used to finish the visible surfaces of the modules. The hotel is currently being assembled from 176 wooden modules, which are transported to the construction site completely prefabricated. 12 modules are assembled per day and the hotel was opened at the end of 2017.
176 of the 201 rooms were prefabricated as complete units and assembled on site. 25 rooms were built on site and customised to the specific conditions. The floors of the 30 m² room modules consist of prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs with concrete core activation for heating and cooling the rooms. The 14 cm thick, five-layer cross-laminated timber panels (glulam panels) for the walls were mounted on the floor slabs. Five-layer, but only 10 cm thick cross laminated timber panels were also used for the ceilings. They were placed between the wall elements on rebates and screwed to the walls.
All beams, columns, ceilings and window frames are made of FSC- or PEFC-certified wood. The cross-laminated timber panels are made of glued spruce, the visible surfaces of light-coloured silver fir. The surfaces are treated with a colourless wood stain. The floors, wall and ceiling panelling in the public areas are made of bamboo.
