Two townhouses in timber hybrid construction

21109 Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg: In two identical, five-storey buildings with staggered floors, 28 apartments were built on Kurt-Emmerich-Platz on sloping terrain as part of the entrance complex at Inselpark. Completion: 2013

These are the first buildings in Germany in building class 5 in which the load-bearing timber components were not encapsulated in terms of fire protection, but were dimensioned to burn off. This made it possible for the first time in this building class to directly experience wood as a building material and its positive effect on the indoor climate without great expense. As part of the IBA Hamburg 2013, the two residential buildings were awarded the Excellence Prize.
