Solar Settlement

Solar housing estates are low-energy or passive house estates that additionally use active solar energy systems to generate energy. The term was strongly coined by Rolf Disch, Thomas Herzog and Manfred Hegger, among others. It was explicitly publicly promoted with the funding programme "50 Solar Housing Estates NRW". In the early days, solar housing estates were often oriented strictly to the south. In the meantime, building technology and costs have developed to such an extent that this is no longer absolutely necessary for ultra-low-energy and passive house designs.
