Purchase premium in Munich now also for private eCargobikes

The state capital of Munich will also pay up to 2,000 euros in purchase premiums for privately used eCargobikes from January 2017.

On 1 April 2016, the Munich-based Electromobility funding guideline into force. It introduced purchase premiums for commercial e-vehicles from pedelecs to e-cars. Since then, there has been a subsidy of 25 percent of the purchase price up to a maximum of 1000 euros for commercially used eCargobikes. In the first five months 86 applications approved. In addition, there is a 1000 euro scrapping premium if a car with an internal combustion engine is demonstrably permanently withdrawn from circulation.

The funding programme runs until 31 December 2020.

Solar industry sales slump: down 74.2% from 2011 to 2014.

WIESBADEN: In 2014, companies in Germany achieved a turnover of 3.7 billion euros with goods and services from the solar industry. Compared to 2011, the last economically strong year, this corresponds to an overall decline in turnover of 74.2% or 10.6 billion euros. The crisis in the solar industry in Germany was already apparent in previous years: turnover totalled 9.5 billion in 2012 and 5.1 billion in 2013. The declining economic importance of the solar industry in Germany is primarily due to negative developments in the photovoltaic industry. Between 2011 and 2014, sales of photovoltaic systems and components fell by 75.5 % from 13.3 to 3.3 billion euros. Turnover also fell sharply in the solar thermal sector - from 1.0 billion euros in 2011 to 0.4 billion euros in 2014. ISFH publishes tenant electricity calculation tool

The Institute for Solar Energy Research (ISFH) has presented a free tool for the individual design and holistic evaluation of tenant electricity concepts.

These offer tenants in apartment blocks the opportunity to benefit from low-cost renewable electricity generated on site. However, profitability depends on many factors, which is why tenant electricity providers can hardly assess whether an investment is worthwhile without assistance. The new calculation tool is designed to solve this problem.

Programme based on Excel
The programme, which is implemented in Microsoft Excel, is based on a model that can be used to compare multivalent supply solutions. In addition to PV systems, small wind turbines and battery storage systems - previously excluded from tenant electricity subsidies - as well as combined heat and power supplies with combined heat and power plants, heat pumps or gas boilers can also be analysed.
The ecological assessment is based on the annual CO2 emissions avoided in the building, which is partly supplied with renewable energy, compared to a conventionally supplied reference building.

Commentary by Philipp Misselwitz on Habitat III

In October, the Habitat III Conference took place in Quito. The "New Urban Agenda" was adopted there. It is intended to help the world community to shape the global urbanisation process in a sustainable way. Why is there so little discussion about this in Germany?

Over 30,000 participants were accredited in Quito. Despite good organisation, there were hours of queuing and security checks to get into the conference area, which was declared a temporary UN exclave, and to attend the numerous lectures, forums, discussions, workshops and stands. But there was little of this euphoria in the German media. Habitat III did not manage to get through with a very big message, as the Paris Agreement managed to do with the two-degree target. So all in vain?
