Energy  The aim of the "Zero-Emission-Village" project was to test the feasibility of CO2 neutrality in the energy supply on the territory of the Weilerbach municipality. CO2 neutrality is not equated with zero emissions, but aims to maintain the natural CO2 balance in the atmosphere.

As part of the project "Zero-Emission-Village Weilerbach", the municipality of Weilerbach, in cooperation with the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld of the University of Applied Sciences Trier, carried out and implemented a feasibility study for a CO2-neutral energy supply for the municipality. Since 2001, the municipality has been providing comprehensive information on climate protection and the use of renewable energies through numerous events and consistent use of the media. A project office advises citizens, local businesses and the administration. On the part of the municipality, demonstration plants have been initiated and implemented with a large number of partners in the areas of wind power, photovoltaics and biomass. The currently installed wind power capacity is 10 megawatts, solar power plants with a total capacity of 87 kilowatts (kWp) are installed on many roofs of the community and the community-owned businesses. For local heating, one of three planned networks has already been completed and supplies 120 individual and terraced houses with heat from a woodchip heating plant with a thermal output of 800 kWp.

The modelling was carried out with Umberto (ifeu Heidelberg / ifu Hamburg).
