New solar storage subsidy in RLP

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate is launching a solar offensive with a 5-million-euro funding programme for private and municipal solar storage systems.

Today, 9 October 2019, Energy Minister Ulrike Höfken and the Rhineland-Palatinate Energy Agency officially launched the Solar Offensive, which is to take effect at various levels. The Minister presented the solar storage programme as a central component of the offensive. "With the programme, we support private households and municipalities in installing new photovoltaic systems combined with battery storage. In this way, we want to promote the self-supply of municipalities with their properties such as climate schools and private individuals with self-generated PV electricity and its storage," said Höfken.

The funding can be applied for at the Rhineland-Palatinate Energy Agency at: www.energieagentur.rlp.de/solarspeicher

280,000 photovoltaic systems turn the sun into electricity in NRW

The use of solar energy is an important pillar in the energy mix of the future and for the concrete implementation of the energy transition. At the end of 2019, around 1.8 million solar power systems with an output of 49,873 megawatt peak (MWp) were installed across Germany. With around 45 billion kWh of climate-friendly electricity, these accounted for a share of just under eight percent of German electricity generation. This amount is mathematically sufficient to supply 12.8 million households with electrical energy for a year. The approximately 280,000 turbines installed in NRW had an output of around 5,300 megawatt peak.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, around one in two (50.6 percent) of the 18,334 residential buildings (excluding dormitories) approved in 2019 are to be heated predominantly or exclusively with renewable energies.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, around one in two (50.6 per cent) of the 18 334 residential buildings approved in 2019 (excluding dormitories) will be heated predominantly or exclusively with renewable energies. These 9 283 residential buildings use biomass, biogas/biomethane, wood, solar panels and/or heat pumps as primary heating energy. As reported by Information und Technik Nordrhein-Westfalen as the State Statistical Office on the occasion of this year's Renewable Energy Day (25 April 2020), the share of construction projects using environmentally friendly heating energies was highest statewide in the Olpe district last year: there, builders relied on renewable energies in 82.2 percent of new buildings. Bottrop (81.3 percent) and the district of Kleve (73.8 percent) followed in second and third place. Building owners in Solingen and the district of Mettmann, on the other hand, planned to use conventional heating energy in the majority of cases in 2019: Here, renewable energies were the primary heating source in around one in five and one in four residential building projects respectively (Solingen: 22.7 per cent; Mettmann district: 26.7 per cent).
