Soil unsealing helps prevent flooding

Soil is sealed with every new building and land for nature is thus used up. The German government now wants to more than halve land consumption over the next few years. Nicola Brockmüller from the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation explains on DLF that this is also a good way of cooling the earth's climate and preventing flooding.

Results: When analysing the total annual costs, the running costs and revenues in the utilisation phase are taken into account in addition to the capital-related investment costs. The result of this full cost calculation is a relatively homogeneous cost level for all building energy standards examined. Due to the subsidies for the better standards, lower energy costs and the use of subsidies, the cost level remains relatively constant among the building energy standards. Thus, higher building energy standards up to the "KfW 40 Plus Standard" are already economically attractive today.

The influence of building energy standards can be classified as subordinate when considering total consumer spending.

When a major investor announces plans to build a shopping mall on a former industrial site in the middle of Cologne-Ehrenfeld, citizens' protests are heard. In her feature film "WEM GEHÖRT DIE STADT - Bürger in Bewegung" (90 min., 2014), filmmaker Anna Ditges tells of an existential confrontation between people with very different, often incompatible lifestyles and values on the Helios site in Cologne. "In the tension between commitment, self-interest and the creation of meaning, it explores the question of how democracy can function in everyday life and how much political responsibility one's own home means to each individual."
