AT - 8283 Bad Blumau: the wellness resort is supplied completely emission-free with electricity and heat generated in a geothermal plant. The spa and hotel resort was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Accordingly, the typical Hundertwasser elements can also be found here. The intensive green roofs, mostly with trees, should be emphasized, which is not often found in multi-storey buildings. Furthermore, the buildings were partly realized with recycled building materials. Bad Blumau is located about 60 km from Graz. Completion: 1997

Stakeholders
Concept: Friedensreich Hundertwasser
Architecture: Peter Pelikan
Project executing agency and operator of the resort: Rogner Company

Building
The buildings have names: Stammhaus - Ziegelhaus - Kunsthaus - Steinhaus - Waldhofhaus - Augenschlitzhaus

Sustainable equipment
The entire facility is built to 4-star standard and has 682 beds in 311 rooms. Sustainable criteria also play an important role in the catering and cosmetic treatments, as well as the furnishing of the rooms (all-wood furniture, organic bed linen and towels, and natural cosmetics).

Emission-free heating
The geothermal plant has been in operation since the end of 2000. It ensures self-sufficient heat and power generation for the Therme and has also been supplying electricity since August 2001. The Vulkania® water is also used to heat the Therme's water pools. This saves around 6,800 litres of heating oil per day during the cold season and avoids 4,500 tonnes of greenhouse gases. This corresponds to the emissions saved by around 2,700 cars with an average annual mileage [Source: www.blumau.com/de/ankommen/geothermie.html
