DERIX Group invites you to the study day "Modern timber construction in historic Amsterdam" on 26.10.2017. The event will take place in the new ABN AMRO Pavilion in Amsterdam, in the construction of which DERIX Group was involved.
In co-operation with the Dutch Houtblad, architects and planners from the Netherlands will gain vivid and exciting insights into modern timber construction on the basis of current major projects and will be comprehensively informed about the special features of glulam and X-LAM as future-oriented building materials.
In the second part of the study day, excursions to the previously discussed construction projects will take place: Here, the participants will visit the nine-storey "Jakarta" hotel, which is made up of X-LAM modules, and the "De 7 Deugden" brewery, which was also built entirely from X-LAM. A total of 200m³ of X-LAM was used for the wall, ceiling and roof elements.
In addition to specialist information and excursions, the study day offers a good opportunity to expand your own network. Get into dialogue with other architects and planners and benefit from a stimulating exchange with your colleagues.

The district of Paderborn has achieved a climate target that can currently only be dreamed of nationwide. It has a green electricity supply of more than 100 per cent. This year, with the help of wind, sun, biomass and water, for the first time as much renewable electricity is being generated as is being consumed. Since the end of June, it has been exactly 112 per cent.
Annual consumption: 2.3 billion kilowatt hours
This is what the State Association for Renewable Energies in OWL determined. The association used figures from the State Agency for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection (LANUV) as well as current data from the district of Paderborn. According to these figures, the more than 500 wind turbines, 11,500 photovoltaic systems and 53 biomass power plants generate slightly more electricity on an annual average than private individuals, trade and industry in the district of Paderborn require over the year: Almost 2.3 billion kilowatt hours.
Second place for Höxter district with 63 per cent green electricity
This puts the Paderborn district in the Champions League nationwide: "There are very few regions that already fulfil the 100 per cent green electricity quota - in NRW, we are the first and so far the only one," says Kerstin Haarmann (Paderborn), Managing Director of LEE OWL. This is particularly remarkable because the district of Paderborn has a national average electricity consumption due to its share of industry. Smaller districts with little industry and commerce would naturally find it easier to reach 100 per cent. In a comparison of East Westphalia, the district of Paderborn is the lone leader: the district of Höxter is in second place with 63 per cent green electricity, followed by the district of Lippe with 23.5 per cent, Gütersloh with 20.8 per cent, Minden-Lübbecke with 17 per cent and Herford with 6.5 per cent. Bringing up the rear is the city of Bielefeld with a 4.5 per cent share of green electricity in electricity consumption.
Renewables account for 27 per cent of total energy demand
The district of Paderborn has even achieved its climate target, which was unanimously approved by the district council in 2011, ahead of schedule. The plan was for electricity consumption to be completely renewable by 2020. "However, we don't have time to rest on our laurels in the fight against climate change," explains Jürgen Wrona (Delbrück) from the LEE OWL board. Measured in terms of total energy demand (electricity, heat and transport), the proportion of renewables in the Paderborn district is currently only around 27 per cent. "There is room for improvement, especially in the areas of heating and transport," says Wrona.

The 52° Nord quarter in Berlin's southeast convinced this year's jury of experts and, with its sustainable and architecturally coherent overall concept, wins the German Housing 2020 Award for the best quarter development.
The Award Deutscher Wohnungsbau is the first award for developers and clients in the area of multi-storey residential construction. The architecture prize is awarded by a jury of experts. This year's jury members include Reiner Nagel, Chairman of the Executive Board Federal Foundation for Building Culture, Sabine Schneider, Editorial Manager of the architecture magazine Baumeister and last year's winner Lars Krückeberg, GRAFT Architekten.
The award-winning 52° North quarter covers around 100,000 m² and is located in the Grünau district of Treptow-Köpenick between the banks of the Dahme River and the Teltow Canal on a former industrial wasteland. A striking feature of this district development is the 6,000 m² water basin, the ecological and visual heart of the district: as part of the overall sustainable concept, rainwater from the surrounding buildings is collected here and biologically purified by planting along the sides. Evaporation returns the rainwater to the natural water cycle and improves the microclimate in the quarter - an example of contemporary rainwater management based on the model of the sponge city.
A neighbourhood square with a café, publicly accessible riverside promenades, play and recreation areas, an energy centre and an eco-nursery round off the concept. Daniel Riedl, member of the Management Board of Vonovia SE and responsible for BUWOG's development in Germany: "In Quartier 52° Nord, we have implemented a quality-first approach, i.e. with the first construction phase we have designed a sustainable residential environment that creates flair and quality of life at the same time - for the new residents and also for the people in the surrounding area. This award confirms to us that architectural and sustainable qualities must be thought of together and are essential success factors in neighbourhood development."
With a large number of different architectural firms designing the individual buildings on the various construction sites, Quartier 52° Nord is today one of the largest inhabited architectural parks of the post-reunification era. The area is being developed in sections, with overall completion expected by 2024. Three construction phases are currently under construction in Quartier 52° Nord: BUWOG THE VIEW, BUWOG REGATTAHOF and the BUWOG LOTSENHÄUSER - realised in timber hybrid construction (KfW-40).

Many people looking for a housing project would subscribe to this guiding principle. And although there are many interested parties and some nice projects, there has been a lack of effectiveness on a larger scale in Cologne so far.
This initiative aims to push forward into a new dimension of housing projects in Cologne and everyone can contribute to this as a source of ideas, supporter or comrade. Even the first project should be larger than the usual housing projects, guarantee a long-term social commitment and also be of benefit to the neighbourhood. What has been realised in Berlin, Munich and Zurich should also be possible in Cologne. However, it should not just be a project for a small group of lucky people, but the start of a new urban culture. How we get there and which things are important and which are luxuries will be worked out together on this evening.
The event is the start of a participatory process that will result in a city that is kept alive by its citizens through active use, that belongs to them and in which they feel at home - but it starts with a project and then some!
