Ecology
Energy To date, the German settlement with the largest roof-integrated photovoltaic system (445 kWp). (Larger roof-integrated PV systems are only found on commercial buildings, etc.) Plusenergiesiedlung®: Energy generation is above energy break, the surplus is fed into the Freiburg electricity grid. Thermal insulation according to passive house standard, glazing of the main facades with U-value of 0.5. Decentralized ventilation system with heat recovery. South orientation for optimal passive and active use of solar energy, the south roofs are fully covered with photovoltaic modules. CHP UNIT.
Building materials Wooden post and beam construction / prefabricated individual modules
Mobility Parking space free settlement
Economics Financing by the "solar fund" (real estate fund) or by 15 outside small investors (solar power plants).

State and private-sector subsidies, including the German government's "100,000 Roofs Program". Surplus electricity is remunerated at 0.48 €/kWh over 20 years. ("Energie-Einspeise-Gesetz" EEG 2000) Cost savings due to pre-assembly of the wooden elements and building services systems. Land price: approx. 500 Euro/m²

Socio-culture Due to its energy concept, the settlement has a model character for the location of Freiburg and is much visited. The concept of the solar settlement includes the "Sonnenschiff" (solar ship), which was built next to it. In addition to shopping facilities for the settlement and its surroundings, this also offers workplaces (offices) and contains several penthouses on the roof.
