Ecology
Waste/water A closed circuit for water and waste water should be created.
All buildings are equipped with composting toilets that save water. In the settlement there is the highest composting toilet in Europe. It is realized on the 5th floor. Further measures on the subject of water: rainwater infiltration, own drinking water source; a reed sewage treatment plant was planned but could not be realised. A plant-based purification system was to clean the grey water. However, it was not approved.

The residents have joined together to form the "Ökologische Baugruppe Waldquelle ÖBW". The Ökologische Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft is a member of the WEG as a legal entity, embedded in the ecological neighbourhood concept.
A planned craftsmen's yard was not implemented

In the documentary, a 5-minute sequence reports on the Waldquelle ecological settlement in Bielefeld. Ute Möller, one of the founders, leads through the ecological settlement and tells about the experiences and developments in the now almost 25 year old settlement with lots of wood, greenery and solar cells on the roof.
